Product Development
Product Development
Since the very beginning of his career, John has been involved in product development in every project and position he’s held. The aspect of Product Development that I enjoy the most is using my experience in manufacturing to optimize the product design with respect to manufacturing. Nothing is more frustrating and costly than having a well designed product that cannot be manufactured efficiently. When the technical personnel responsible for manufacturing are involved early in the development process, many problems can be minimized or avoided altogether. Some examples are:
Material Selection Testing and evaluating materials for impact strength in injection molded containers Establishing Specifications Product Testing Molded Components for Blood Gas Monitoring System used in Open Heart Surgery Complete Eyewear Products – from frames and lenses to full finished assemblies Large Polarized Goggle Lens – drove development with Japanese vendor despite resistance and culture differences Law Enforcement and Military Equipment – Holsters & Duty Gear (belts, magazine & cuff pouches etc.) Catheter Balloons & Tubing Specification of equipment, manufacturing methods & how they relate to design Design for Manufacturing, Manufacturability, Moldability
